About the pousada
Pousada Rancho do Peixe shares the same owners as Vila Kalango in Jericoacoara and the same preoccupation with using local materials, handicrafts and labour, and maintaining harmony with nature. However the location on a deserted beach 12 kilometres southeast of Jeri means that it appeals to a slightly different type of person- someone who want to relax in total peace far from the madding crowds and inevitable noise of a town.
The 20 spacious bungalows all face the sea and have places to sit, write and lounge in hammocks on the veranda. From August to November it is a kitesurfing paradise- with a school for those who want to learn- but the rest of the year it is just cool calm comfort. Lounge by the beach, by the pool, experience wonderful local cuisine, windsurf, kitesurf, or write the novel you always meant to write. There is free transport into Jeri whenever you want to see the rest of the world, but you'll find after the first day you won't need it. Simply magic.
About the location
Praia do Prea is a lovely stretch of deserted sandy beach 12 kilometres east of Jeri. There is a small fairly nondescript village with a few beach bars as you come into the village but you are more likely to pass through here en route to and from the pousada rather than hang out here. For sun longing there are other more beautiful beaches in the world, but what Prea has which they don’t is a superb bay for wind and kitesurfing- and a school for those who want to learn. Come between May and November (missing out the holiday seasons of July and August and the rainy winter December to April)) and you will find the place at its best, both for watersports and just lounging by the pool contemplating the beach.Not to be missed
