About the pousada
What a treat the Pousada Bromelias. A rural retreat which effortlessly combines rustic chic luxury with easygoing informality; privacy and exclusivity with a totally relaxed atmosphere.
The 10 bungalows here (5 stndard and 5 luxury) are all super spacious boasting either 40 or 60 sq mtrs each with high ceilings and terraces looking out over the rainforest. Beds are uniformly wonderful with high thread count egyptian cotton sheets and the bathroom has excellent showers and exclusive soaps and lotions courtesy of Celia who together with husband Ari planned and designed the whole pousada. Luxury bungalows in addition boast DVD players and a wonderful indoor jacuzzi with a view.
This is a pousada where buildings blend into theexuberant foliage, and where pool, sauna, ofuro, gym and tennis courts all have fabulous leafy mountainous views. Wi-fi internet is free but slow and intermittent and somehow you get the feeling that this is not an accident. Bromelias is a place to leave the world behind, to re-charge batteries, to slow down and jsut chill out in the gorgeous surroundings. I definitely did not want to leave.
About the location
The Pousada Bromelias is situated up a fairly steep track just outside the viillage of Grauna, 17 kms to the north of the historic city of Paraty. Buses come as far as Grauna but you will need a car to really explore the area and there is a great deal to explore.
Two good beaches are nearby- Prainha 7 kms away and Sao Goncalo 15kms, and a visit to the Paraty is unmissable with its traffic free unspoilt centre, full of cobbled streets and colonia houses dating back to the early 1800s. Once in Paraty take a boat or schooner trip around the bay with its myriad islands or drive a bit further into the fishing village of Trindade.
Or alternatively just chill out in the luxury of the Pousada Bromelias itself and get some pampering in the spa. There are definitely days when that beats anything.
