Alison's pousada review
I had visited Pousada Bambu Dourado once before but only had time for a quick look around and chat with owners Brazilian/German owners Renato and Bea. What a difference an overnight stay means. Only that way do you really get the essence what Bambu Dourado is- a place which effortlessly combines a tropical setting with great accommodation, original works of art, an excellent restaurant and superb hospitality,
The pousada itself is set just a bit back from the beach of Taipu de Fora, only 5 minutes from the beach bars and has 8 suites housed in four 2 story buildings, all grouped around a central garden. There are different types of room, and different prices mainly depending on the size and if they have jacuzzis or not and all are extra comfortable with high ceilings spacious shower rooms and good showers, great bed linen and fridge, cable TV. Totally integrated into the garden there ‘s a beautiful sunken square with cushions where you can read and chat and chill with other guests right beside the piece de resistance- the restaurant.
Bea is a restorer and Renato a cabinet maker and both are travellers (indeed they planned the pousada whilst in India) so they understand what people need and treat everyone as friend or family. In the evening we were treated to a great Thai shrimp curry accompanied by a good Mendozan merlot, and chatted to our hosts and other guests before a really excellent night’s sleep, the gentle roar of waves in the background. I myself have to move on but next time I’ll stay double the time for sure.
- natural swimming pools at low tide
- walking along long sandy deserted beach
- beachbar culture during the day
- side trips to Barra Grande and Lagoa do Cassange
- hospitality of hosts Bea and Renato
- beautifully designed suites
- great restaurant open in the evening
