About the pousada
O Veleiro B&B is probably one of the most hidden of all the hidden places we recommend but it is most definitely worth finding! Located in a large family house on a quiet hillside overlooking Botafogo and the Tijuca national park, this is the pioneer B&B of Rio and Rob and Richard really know how to make their guests feel at home.
Rooms are not luxurious but are super comfortable and there is a small pool, bar area, large garden and patio area for guests to relax in, often visited by toucans, parrots, tiny monkeys and the resident plodding tortoise.
Breakfast is also an unmissable feast with home made juices, home grown bananas, papaya, mangos and avocados plus bread, cheese, coldcuts, yoghurt and of course as much coffee as you want!
Regrettably I didn't actually get to stay the night on this last trip, but from just what I saw and all the amazing reviews of O Veleiro everywhere I will definitely be insisting on staying next time!
About the location

O Veleiro B&B is situated in a quiet forested hillside urban setting with partial views of Corcovado and Tijuca National Park.
Rob is a registered guide with the Ministry of Tourism and there are plenty of trips on offer for those who want to visit nearby Corcovado, Sugar Loaf, Tijuca forest or places further afield.
For those who want to see the city sites alone there is a quick shortcut down the steps to Botafogo and the many public transport options there. On the way back choose between some good uphill exercise or take the short taxi ride if you are feeling lazy! Either way there will be a great atmosphere, high speed wi-fi and a nice caipirinha awaiting you on your return.
