GETTING TO MARAGOGI
Maragogi is in the state of Alagoas, the capital of which is Maceió, but it is actually equidistant from the airports of Maceió and Recife and it is often easier and cheaper to get flights to the latter. In 2013 there were rumours that an airport would be opening in Maragogi soon and said “watch this space but don’t hold your breath!”. Turns out I was right to be sceptical . Can’t even find a mention of it on Google these days.
By Car: From Maceió airport the easiest way is to get your pousada to organise a taxi transfer (around R$290,00); otherwise you can easily get a hire car for around R$200,00 a day and drive yourself.
By Car: From Recife Airport the easiest way to get to Maragogi is to take a taxi transfer . This takes 2 hours and costs around R$ 250,00 and can be organised in advance by your pousada or when you arrive. It is also quite straightforward to drive yourself if you are used to driving in Brazil. Hire cars are available from the airport costing around R$ 200,00 per day.
Tips: If you do intend to drive and you are not familiar with the location, make sure you are driving during the day rather than at night, in case for any reason you get lost. Follow signs to the beaches and do not follow the BR101.
